Helen L. Garcia

Helen L. Garcia, 90, of Southbrook Drive, Lancaster, formerly of Ruby Street, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in Lancaster, PA and a lifelong resident, Helen was the widow of Marvin R. Garcia, Sr., who passed away in 2002, and they were married for 51 years. She was the daughter of the late Oscar M. Bechtold and Sallie E. Sigman Bechtold Byers. A graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School in 1947, Helen went to work with the former Hamilton Watch Company from 1947-1949; then worked for RCA from 1949-1951. From 1975 until her retirement in 1991 she worked for the former Watt & Shand Department Store as a seasonal gift wrapper. One of her passions was her grand and great-grandchildren, including any baby or child that entered the room. She would light up at the sight of children. She enjoyed the Phillies, watching birds, feeding the squirrels, listening to music, puzzles, and word searches. She was of the Christian faith. She is lovingly survived by her children, Christine M, wife of Wilmer M. Doll, Lancaster, PA; James, husband of Julie Garcia, New Providence, PA; Jacqueline, wife of Allen Bedwell, Lancaster, PA; Barbara L. Garcia, Lancaster, PA; Mary, wife of Dennis Imler, Leola, PA; Jean L., wife of Michael Hagen, Lancaster, PA; Nancy R. Garcia, Lancaster, PA; Beth L. Landis, Hohenwald, TN, 19 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren and was preceded in death by her son, Marvin R. Garcia, Jr., four brothers: Arthur, Christian, Clair, and Jay Bechtold, and two sisters: Florence and Ethel. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Helen’s Memorial Service at The Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 528 W. Orange St. (corner of W. Orange & Pine Sts.), Lancaster, PA on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dale Parmer officiating. Interment will follow at Silver Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at The Groffs on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O.
