Edward G. Quaintance

Edward G. “Ed” Quaintance, 86, of Lititz, PA, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 surrounded by his family at Penn Medicine, Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Williamsville, New York, Ed was the son of George Frederick and Elizabeth (Pound) Quaintance. He attended one-room schoolhouses in Williamsville and left school at 16 for an apprenticeship. Over the years, he had a variety of jobs. His life’s ethics were to work hard and play hard. He initially was a plumber's apprentice at ERB Plumbing Company. His experience prepared him for a career with General Motors as a pipe fitter at the Forge Plant in Buffalo for 22 years. After he retired from GM, he started a lawn care company in South Hill, VA, caring for up to 50-60 lawns a week for 15 years. Additionally, he was a proud Volunteer Firefighter in Clarence Center, New York, serving 20 years and serving as Vice President for one year. Everyone who knew Ed was amazed at how much energy he had. He loved working outdoors doing landscaping, working on flower gardens, camping, hiking, and biking, and he also enjoyed collecting antique glass. He loved his dogs and listening to country music. He also took trips of a lifetime to Hawaii, Sante Fe, and Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Hot Air Balloon Festival, and Rocky Mountain Train Trip in Canada, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He is lovingly survived by his companion, Suzanne Masten of Lancaster, PA along with her daughter, Courtney (Christopher) and their children Lily and Jack; her son, Justin (Shea) and their children, Kayden and Layla. Ed also leaves behind six children, Edward (Pam) Quaintance, Marianne (Kavin Kowis) Watson, Victoria (Stephen) Palmerton, Sherrie Dudley, Timothy (Cindy) Dudley, and Buzzy (Janet) Dudley; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Ed was one of ten children and is survived by his brother Stan Quaintance. He is survived by his first wife Susan (Michael) Quaintance and he was the husband of the late Joyce (Goodspeed) Quaintance for 28 years before her passing in March 2010. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of Ed's life in Star Tannery, VA on September 3rd at 1:00 at Marianne’s home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Clarence Center Volunteer Fire Company at ccvfc.org.
