Florence E. Gochenaur

Florence E. Gochenaur, 92 of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster, Good Drive. She was the wife of Gordon Gochenaur with whom she was married for 58 years prior to his death in 2000. Born on January 16, 1919 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the Late John K. and Romaine W. Heinitsh and is survived by her daughter, Mary E. Lehr wife of Robert, Lancaster; a grandson, Scott Lehr (Dorothy); a granddaughter, Kelly E. (James Gallagher); a step-grandson, Shawn Gallagher (Laura); a step-granddaughter, Shannon (Adam Alamo); four great-grandchildren, Samuel, Madeline, Anne, and Leah; and three step-great grandchildren, Colin, Adam and Biddy. Florence is also survived by a sister, Arlene Streaker, Lancaster, and numerous nieces and nephews. A life-long resident of Lancaster, she graduated from Stevens Girls High School in 1936. During World War II, she worked locally making fuses, accompanied her husband to various Air Force bases, and later worked at Hamilton Watch in the late 40’s. Florence and her husband were former members of the Hamilton Club, the Lancaster Riding Club, the Conestoga Country Club and the Susquehanna Yacht Club. A member of Millersville Woman’s Club, she was the Arts Chairman for several years. Florence was devoted to her family and her home and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The Funeral Service will be held at The Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 528 W. Orange Street, (at the corner of W. Orange & Pine Streets) Lancaster at 11:00am on Friday, April 1, 2011 with the Rev. David D. Kreider officiating. The family will greet friends at The Groffs from 10:00am until time of service.
