Glenn H. Leighty

Glenn H Leighty, 84, of Oak Leaf Manor, Millersville, PA, formerly of Broad Street, Lancaster died at Hospice of Lancaster County, Good Drive on Wednesday evening April 27, 2011. Born in Dudley, PA he was the son of the late Earl E. and Verna I. Mullen Leighty. He and his wife, Mary Jane Abel Leighty, shared 64 years of marriage last October. Glenn served in the US Navy with the Seabees and was at the Battle of Okinawa. An electrician, he retired from the former Hubley Manufacturing Company in 1972. Following retirement he was employed by Fuller Manufacturing in Manheim and later by Lancaster Electric Company. He was a member of Covenant Methodist Church, Lancaster for over 50 years where he served as an usher, was on many committees and bowled with the church league for many years. Glenn’s secret in Life was “Trust in the Lord and he will see you through.” Besides bowling his hobbies were the church softball league and he was an avid Phillies fan. For over seventeen years he transported patients within The Lancaster General Hospital as a volunteer. In addition to his wife Mary Jane, at home, Glenn is survived by his daughter Joyce Ann wife of Rev. Jerry Ulmer and his Grandson Matthew Ulmer and 2 Great-grandsons all residing in Columbia. Also surviving are his brother, Marl husband of Theda E. Leighty of FL, sister Anna wife of Jack Everhart of Three Springs, Pa and sister Norma Jane Ritchey of Lancaster. He was predeceased by his sister Mabel Hunsacker and brothers Roy, Willard and Donald Leighty. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Glenn’s Celebration of Life Funeral Service at Covenant United Methodist Church, 110 N. Mulberry Street, Lancaster Monday, May 2, 2011 at 11:00 am with the Rev. William J. Keeler officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening 6-8:00 p.m. at The Groffs Family Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc, 528 W Orange Street (Corner of Orange & Pine Sts), Lancaster, and on Monday at the church from 10:00 am until time of Service. Interment will follow at the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. Please omit flowers, if desired Memorials may be sent in Glenn’s Memory to Covenant United Methodist Church, 110 N.
