Gloria Grace Newport

Gloria Grace (Fanelli) Newport, 101, of Lancaster, the wife of the late Amos J. Newport, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Homestead Village. She was born in Lancaster and was the loving daughter of the late James and Angelica (Pianezza) Fanelli. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Paul Fanelli (Catherine), Dorothy Ferich (John), Charlotte Herr (Eugene), Vera Benedick (Edward), and William Fanelli. Gloria was a natural beauty who took great care and pride in her appearance and was always a smart dresser. Gloria and Amos met while roller skating at the Western Market Skating Rink at 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster. Amos was taken by her at first glance and gave her and her friends a ride home. Their love blossomed from there on. They were married, and Amos served as a U.S. Marine at Midway during World War II, and Gloria worked at a Marine base in North Carolina. Gloria was loved and treasured by her family and was like a second mother to her nieces and nephews. She was a sweet and caring woman who would do anything for her family. When she babysat her younger relatives, she would clean and tidy up the house without a second thought. At family dinners, she would jump up and begin cleaning the dishes, making it a lively part of the mealtime get-together. Amos and Gloria brought warm good cheer to every family gathering. Gloria worked until she was 93, then enjoyed reading, watching Hallmark movies, and entertaining guests. Gloria is survived by her nieces and nephews. John Ferich (Sylvia) of FL, Barbara Ferich Dirks (John) of Lancaster, Craig Ferich (Linda) of Lancaster, Dick Herr (Kendall) of TX, Paul Fanelli of CO, Cathy (Fanelli) Secker (Bob) of FL, Joseph Fanelli (Karen) of Lancaster, Gloria (Caldwell) Rye (Richard) of Lancaster, Sonny Caldwell of DE, nieces-in-law, Kim Ferich (Vaughn) of Middletown, and Jane Benedick (Edward) of NC, and numerous other nieces, nephews, greats, and great-greats. In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria was preceded in death by her nephews, Vaughn Ferich and Edward Benedick, and niece Regina Fanelli. In keeping with Gloria’s wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
