JEAN ELIZABETH MYERS

Jean Elizabeth Myers, 92, of Lancaster, left this earthly life on Wednesday morning, April 4, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster on December 1, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Myron and Mabel Shillenn Boettner. Her beloved husband of 72 years, Samuel M. Myers, preceded her in death on February 17, 2012. She retired from The Lancaster Newspapers in 1986 having worked in specialty sales. A member of the first class to graduate from the J.P. McCaskey High School in 1938, Jean attended Millersville Normal School, now Millersville University. She completed a creative writing course at Franklin & Marshall College, enjoyed writing stories and poetry and contributed to “I Know A Story” in The Sunday News. Jean was a life-long member of Covenant United Methodist Church, joining in 1933. She served as their first woman Sunday School Superintendant, taught in the teaching nursery for 35 years and in 1975 became a teacher of The Ladies Bible Class. Jean was a life member of The United Methodist Women, served on their executive committee, was a member of The Mission Commission and Evangelism Commission. She joined the Senior Choir as a teen continuing for over 70 years. Jean was a member of the first Girl Scout Troop in Lancaster and was the founder of one of the first troops in Lancaster. She enjoyed flying with her husband in their restored Cessna, was an avid bowler, liked singing, writing, reading, bowling and ceramics. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Jean Killian and Barbara Ann wife of Richard Ryan, all of Lancaster; 4 beloved grandchildren; Matthew G. Killian, New York, Ann Michelle, wife of Dustin Schlenbaker, Lancaster, Crystal Reedy and Corinna Killian of Lancaster. She was the last of her immediate family. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Jean’s Celebration of Life Funeral Service at Covenant United Methodist Church, 110 N. Mulberry Street, Lancaster on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. with The Reverend Theodore C. Mefferd officiating. Her family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 p.m. until time of Service. Private Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park.
