Joan E. Kahler

Joan E. Kahler, 83, of Trillium Place, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2026. Born in Denver, Pennsylvania, she was the beloved wife of the late Charles B. Kahler who passed away on October 5, 2020. Together they shared 52 years of marriage filled with love, travel, faith, and devotion to their family. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Helen Enck. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Enck. Joan graduated from Dickinson College with a bachelor’s degree and began her career as a social worker. After starting a family, she devoted herself to being a homemaker, wife, and mother. Her family was always her greatest priority, and she poured her heart into creating a warm and welcoming home. She was known for her love of cooking, gathering loved ones around the table, and making every holiday and family celebration special, baking each family member’s favorite birthday cake every year, a tradition that reflected the thoughtfulness and care she showed to everyone she loved. She was a gifted cook whose meals brought people together and created lasting memories. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Joan had a gift for making everyone feel welcomed, loved, and valued. She had a remarkable ability to make every person she spoke with feel as though they were the only one in the room, having her undivided attention. She was kind, genuine, down-to-earth, and possessed a pure and generous spirit. An avid reader with a lifelong love of learning, she enjoyed books of every genre and was rarely without a novel or a sudoku puzzle close at hand. She loved learning new things and appreciated the arts, particularly attending performances at the Fulton Opera House and classical music concerts. Her many passions included needlepoint, genealogy research, and gardening. Above all, Joan treasured her family and close friends, who remained the center of her life and the greatest source of joy. A faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Joan served on the vestry for several years and dedicated countless hours to organizing and researching the church archives. Her service reflected both her strong faith and her commitment to preserving the history of the church she loved. She also believed in giving back to her community and quietly served others throughout her life. She is survived by two children, Daniel Charles Kahler and Jennifer Lynn, wife of Lewis Kennard, both of Lancaster, PA, a granddaughter, Kayla and a great-granddaughter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan’s Memorial Service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 31 South Duke Street, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Joel Petruschki officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at the memorial garden of the church.
