John Andrew "Andy" Heidig, Jr.

John Andrew “Andy” Heidig, Jr., 85, of Lancaster, PA, passed away surrounded by his family at home on Monday, June 4, 2018. He was the son of the late J. Andrew and Louella Trout Heidig and the loving husband for 56 years to Ethyle Mae Johnson Heidig. Andy graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1951 and served 12 years in the Naval Reserve. After a 36-year career at the United States Postal Service, Andy retired in 1995. Additionally, he enjoyed many years of driving for Shultz Bus Company in the Lancaster City School District. Meeting and engaging with the students going to school or a sporting event added a highlight to his day. Andy was a lifelong member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lancaster, PA, where he was on the vestry, ushered, assisted in the sound/tech department, and volunteered with the community breakfast. His civic duties included serving on the Union Fire Company #1 and The Elks Lodge BPO. He was also an active volunteer at Homestead Village and the Salvation Army. In addition to his wife, Andy is survived by three daughters: Lynne H. Segro (Kevin Moran) of York, Cheryl A. (Les) Hogg, and Debra H. (David) Greenawalt, both of Lancaster; a son, J. Andrew (Nina) Heidig, III, of Forest Hills, NY, a brother, James L. (Barbara) Heidig and sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Heidig and Jean Heidig; six grandchildren, Kristin Segro (Joe Ciesielski), Ryan Hogg, Eric (Sarah) Hogg, Gretta Williams, Demi and Drew Greenawalt; and a great-grandson, James Ciesielski. He was preceded in death by his brothers: William T. Heidig and George T. Heidig, and son-in-law, Eugene Segro. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Andy’s Rite of Christian Burial on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 119 N. Duke Street, Lancaster, PA, with Rev. David W. Peck officiating. Family will receive friends at St. James on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be held at Conestoga Memorial Park.
