Mary Jo McKeever

Mary Jo McKeever, age 70 of Willow Street, PA died on January 2, 2014 after an eight year battle with cancer. Mary Jo was the wife of T. Jug McKeever with whom she spent 48 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Wayne W. Winters and Betty Jo Winters. Surviving in addition to her husband are two children, Christine R. McKeever and Daniel H. McKeever, Sr. and his wife, Iona. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Daniel H. McKeever, Jr. and Rhiannon M. McKeever. Mary Jo was a registered nurse for 50 years. Professional work for over 30 of those years was in the field of oncology and hospice. While working in hospice she served as a home care nurse, team leader in administration, and then in community education and outreach. Following retirement from nursing she pursued further study in clinical Pastor Education, later being employed as chaplain in a family medicine practice. Commitment to her faith was important throughout her life. In the church she sang in the choir for over 30 years, she served as co-founder of parish nursing ministry in Lancaster County, served as co-chair of the pastoral search committee and on the larger church board at the regional and national level. She was also president of the church council and later church administrator. She was named, Honored Lay Woman by the national board in 2001. Mary Jo was a graduate of Leadership Lancaster. She served on several community boards. Mary Jo’s focus on God and her family brought joy throughout life. Her many friends added a richness to life which she always treasured. Her hobbies included music, sharing meals and hospitality in her home, flower gardening, and travel. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mary Jo’s Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 301 St. Thomas Road, Lancaster, PA with Reverend Thomas Dodge officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
