Richard O. Moebius

Richard O. Moebius, 95, of Willow Valley Communities, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025. He was born in Dresden, Germany, as the son of Industrialist Arthur Moebius and his wife, Lissy (Rasch) Moebius. After the 1946 total expropriation of his family's holdings (along with those of all East German Industry) through the Russian Military Occupation Administration, he completed his schooling and engineering education in West Germany. After emigrating to Canada in 1957, he settled in the Lancaster area in early 1960 and was employed by the former Raybestos Manhattan Company in Manheim, Pennsylvania. He retired in 1988 as a Manager of Manufacturing. His interests were many, mostly shared by his dearly beloved wife, Heide, with whom he enjoyed sixty-six years of happy marriage; they married on February 5, 1959. Richard’s hobbies included Classical Music, Photography, worldwide travel to over 40 countries, reading and writing poetry, animal welfare and all kinds of sports: Tennis, many years of membership in the Lancaster Ski Club and with the Lancaster Road Runners (where, in later life, he coached his wife to national prominence and eventually the 2019 induction into the Lancaster County Sports Hall of Fame), and especially a 20+ year soccer career, playing among others for the nine-time All-German Champion 1. FC Nuremberg, and as captain of the 1959 Eastern Canadian All-Stars. In 1970, he became the founding president of the highly successful Lancaster United Soccer Club. Richard is survived by his wife, Heide Moebius, his two sisters, Maria, wife of Dieter Lippman, and Christine Schminke, all of Nuremberg, Germany, his brother-in-law, Jochen Vorndran, and family in the Stuttgart, Germany area: seven nephews, nieces, and many great-nephews and great-nieces. A third sister, Josephine, wife of Mike Bass of Dallas, TX, preceded him in death. According to his wishes, there will be no viewing, and the funeral arrangements will be private.
