Vernon L. Brown

Vernon L. Brown, 69, of Lancaster, PA, gained his wings on Monday, June 22, 2026, in Hershey Medical Center. Born in Pensacola, FL, he was the son of the late Baker Brown, Sr. and Alma Moore Brown. For 38 years, he was the life partner of Helen A. Morant, the mother of their children. Vernon attended Pittsburgh Public Schools and was a proud graduate of the Class of ‘76 at Westinghouse High School. He attended Alabama State University and later went on to graduate from the Philadelphia Art Institute with a degree in photography. Throughout his life, he worked as a machine operator at various companies. A proud and active member of the Lancaster community, Vernon loved coaching youth Basketball, watching Women’s Tennis matches, and being a true die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. He had a passion for photography and was often the family's photographer, capturing treasured moments at gatherings and during travels. In his downtime, he enjoyed sitting in the back of his van with old school jams blasting, and was known as “The OG of the block”. He was admired for his warm spirit, sense of humor, and unforgettable presence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Wynetta Brown and Cassandra Chaneyfield, and grandparents Maggie and Eugene Moore He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved Queen and life partner, Helen A. Morant; his son, Jeremiah Lee Brown; his daughter, Dr. Jocelyn R. Brown; his brothers, Baker (Donna) Brown, Jr., Lamont Brown, Donald (Laangelia) Brown, and Dexter Brown; his sisters, Michelle Brown, Yuronica Brown, Urainer Brown, and Lawanda Brown Clark; his aunts, Mary L. Lanier and Dorothy Moore; his cherished grand-dog, Saint; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory. Family and Friends are invited to celebrate Vernon’s life at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange St., Lancaster, PA, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
