Barbara H. Nelms Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Barbara H. Nelms, 91, formerly of Garnet Avenue, Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully at Legend of Lititz, on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Born in Holland, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late James Wilbur and Essie Blythe Holland and the widow of Henley Nelms who passed away in 1990. Henley and Barbara came to Lancaster in 1957 as Henley worked for several JC Penney’s Department stores for 42 years. Barbara enjoyed her work over the years in retail at the former Garvin’s Department Store from 1965-1975; the former Mailman’s and Maxwell’s Department Store from 1976-1988; the former Watt & Shand Department Store and Bon-Ton from 1988 – 1995. Most recently she attended Mount Calvary Church in Elizabethtown. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Martha Nelms of Elizabethtown, PA and two sisters, Charlotte Duke of Suffolk, VA and Ellen Forrest of Burlington, NC. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ann Woods, Nancy Baines, Judy Holland and James Holland. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Barbara’s Graveside Service at Conestoga Memorial Park, 95 Second Lock Road, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Mr. Joseph Dukes officiating.
